Skype–Raising the Price

The press release are saying they are giving customers “a choice of easy-to-understand, value-based Internet communications packages” and setting the stage for additional calling plans later. But let’s call a spade a spade. What they are really doing is raising the price, but they can’t come right out and say that, can they? I’m okay with a price increase so long as there is a commensurate increase in call quality. Whether that will happen remains to be seen.

As of today, Skype has now tacked on a 0.039 EURO/USD connection fee to each call made. This fee doesn’t apply if you have subscribed to one of Skype’s unlimited calling plans and are calling within the specific countries. For example, if you subscribed to the US/Canada calling promotion like I have, all calls to the US/Canada do not have a connection fee associated with them, but if you call somewhere else, the connection fee applies.
