Sandisk Woes

While in Costco today, I ran across a Sandisk Cruzer Mini 256 USB Flash drive for $49.99. Decent deal, considering the 128mb Flash Drive I got at Target a few weeks back was about $35. So I took it home and plugged it into my Gentoo box. System locked up. Was not expecting that since my 128mb Lexar drive worked without a hitch. Scarily enough, I experienced a similar problem in my Red Hat-type box, though it at least waited until I attempted to mount the filesystem. I tried to reproduce the problem on the Red Hat box, but it only occured once.

I finally isolated it down to “hotplug” causing the issue — not sure why since manually loading the correct modules solved the problem pretty easily. So I manually added the appropriate entries to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 and it mounts/unmounts as necessary.

Oh well, it’s damn late. Time for bed.
