Reorganizing my office

Every once in a while, I need to move things around in my office. This time, the goal I have in mind is to move my normal computing area closer to the door of my office. The reason is: at night at least, I need to be able to hear things that may be occuring downstairs. I basically need to be able to hear my son, who is at the opposite end of the house. My workspace was in the farthest corner of the office farthest away from the door. To make matters worse, my personal computer (A P4 2.53 Ghz) is quite a noisy little beast. If that computer is on and the ceiling fan is on, there’s no way I can hear my son in his room.

I have several “obstacles” in my office that I must work around:

  • An Eight Ball Deluxe pinball game. I’ve gotta get the damned thing fixed… :)
  • The fact my son is attached to having his computer in a particular location in my office. Why? Because that’s where it started out. Moving it eventually precipitated a meltdown.
  • I have several computers that need to share a KVM switch to be usable, thus need to be located in the same general location.
  • I only have two monitors and not really interested in buying a new one.
  • I have an area of stuff that has a child-wall “protecting” it. It contains lots of cords and miscellaneous things that I don’t want my son to get into.

At the moment, I’ve got my son’s computer and mine sharing a KVM switch (fortunately, I have two) on his desk, since I don’t typically use my computer while he is using his. However, I really need a better organizational system, a way to quiet my beasts, or much better hearing. :)
