The joy of travelling

This evening, I have to go down to the Sillycon Valley and spend a few days down in the home office. I’ve got the travelling part down (I’ve been doing trips to California for several years now), what I don’t like is dealing with corporate travel policies. Let’s just say the corporate policies don’t always fit the “reality” of every travellers situation, nor do they necessarily take into account the amount of time the travel takes. In my situation, it’s a matter of their “preferred carriers” not being realistic choices for me, then getting “nastygrams” when I deviate from said norms. In the grand scheme of things, I’m generally not costing the company any more money (sometimes it’s more, but not by much), but what I am saving is a huge amount of time, which ultimately saves the company more.

The other “joy” of travelling is: leaving my son. My son doesn’t like it when either my wife or I leave to go to the grocery store without him, much less a several-day trip. I guess I should enjoy it because eventually he will be ambivelant to my trips.
