Yes, He’s Doing Fine!

This is what the bathroom door in my son’s hospital room looks like after his class sent over their “care package,” which included a bunch of handmade “Get Well” cards.

The truth is, he’s doing pretty well. Other than the fact he’s got an IV and a drain attached to them, he’s pretty much back to normal. It’s the first time in a couple of weeks his disposition was “normal.” He’s hanging out, playing his DS, watching TV, and playing with various things people got him.

Unfortunately, we have to wait for his drain to stop having stuff in it. His appendix burst, and the resulting fluid gathered in an abcess, which needs to be drained. They are expecting he’ll be able to come home Monday or Tuesday. He’s also going to need antibiotics through an IV for a while after he comes home as well.

And of course, at some point in the near future, after everything’s been healed, he’s going to have to go back in and get the appendix removed. It’s by no means over yet, but at least we’re on the right path.
