Jajah Takes Over Yahoo’s Telephony Services

In what looks like a similar arrangement to what Jangl did with Jajah a while ago, Jajah scores big by doing a deal with Yahoo to take over providing voice services for 97 million Yahoo IM profiles. It’s probably not 97 million users as I’m sure several people have more than one ID, but it’s still a lot of people!

I will admit I wasn’t quite sure what Jajah was doing by both having a retail play and having a backend play. Maybe the retail play was to prove they had scale while they built this massive platform. It’s certainly going to be put to the test with all those Yahoo users!

i have never used yahoo voice; but have noticed in the past when i checked that they have extremely cheap rates to many destinations/ many of these are substantially less than jajah’s rates. lets hope yahoo rates do not go up as result of this deal. in all business moves to exclusive suppliers tends to lead to higher prices for consumers; if not initially than in the long run. i would prefer to see an announcement something like Yahoo has decided they would form no binding termination agreements and go with the lowest prices termination partner for each destination as long as it meets there quality standards.
