I’m Influential For Nokia? What is BuzzLogic Smoking?
Ewan over at SMS Text News dropped a bombshell in one of his posts:
(SMS Text News is the 7th most influential site on the planet for the term Nokia, by the way, according to Buzzlogic. Phoneboy, you’re above me, I think.)
He sent me a screenshot from Buzzlogic’s service from November and sure enough, I’m right there just above him.
What. The. Hell. Do I talk about my employer that much? Am I really that influential? What does this mean? I tend to think it’s a bunch of hooey, but what do I know? Anyone care to comment on this?

Valerie from BuzzLogic here. I caught your post earlier - sorry for the lag time in response!
Our system is keyword-based, so depending on the nature and timeframe of the query set up, a blogger could rank high on the influence scale, low, or not show up at all. I’m not sure what the nature of the query was that Ewan sent you, so I took the liberty of running a few on my own. For a nokia + phones analysis on content from the past 12 months, the Phoneboy blog came up as 56 out of 100 influential bloggers, with about 11 posts in total that came up as influential throughout the past year. We’ve noticed that influence changes over time, so it’s very possible that based on the query that was set up in November, and the nature of the key words, Phoneboy could have ranked higher. @Stephen – for this particular query it looks like the top 5 include Engadget Mobile, Nokia’s corporate site, IntoMobile, Darla Mack and AllAboutSymbian.
Our system takes many factors into account when determining influence – the length of time someone is blogging, how many posts they post on the same subject over and over again, the linking activity around a specific post, as well as the credibility and influence of all the bloggers who are linking into a particular post.
