Facebook “Applications” Annoy Me

FacebookIt seems like every time I go on Facebook, someone somewhere wants me to try this application. With a few exceptions, most of the applications on Facebook are an utter waste of time designed to suck you into spending more time on Facebook.  Like I need to spend more time on web sites. ;)

Can someone explain to me what applications on Facebook are actually useful and not a waste of my time? Jangl Phonebook is one app I see a use for, even if I don’t particularly need it. Can you name others?

    Hello,

actually, I do not think there are really “usefull” app on facebook.
But here are some I use and that does not need any intervention from you on FB :
    - del.icio.us in order to let people know what I am interested in
    - jaiku
    - stumbleupon

if you already use these websites, you do not need to spend more time on FB.
I also installed “where ‘ve been” app

Actually, there are so many app it is not easy to find which we have to use…

But something important : each time I add an app, I always skip the “invite people to use this app” step :)

    Yes! I agree wholeheartedly.

Facebook has always been a great tool for keeping in touch with my disparate group of friends - many of whom have little or no access to IM. The site was a nice, quick and clean way of communicating using a series of (mostly) well thought out tools. However it’s becoming much, much more difficult to filter out the noise - each application a friend adds seems to pollute my ‘News Feed’ that little bit more.

Maybe it’s time to stand up to our friends and start removing those who have these applications? :-)

I see no sense in Facebook at all. The discussion groups are barely updated and the people’s status messages are silly. So are the applications. I am quite disappointed.

You assume Facebook is a business tool or something. I think it’s more about connecting with people and engaging in mindless diversions with them. Sure, I get annoyed by all the invites, but that’s like complaining that “all tennis players do is hit a ball back and forth - i mean what’s the point!”. It’s entertainment! (barely) :)

There are plenty of ways to be distracted on the Internet. Facebook provides me little that I can’t get somewhere else. I also fail to see their business model.
