Internet Radio Given A Reprieve

Word has come out today that the usurious rates that SoundExchange was about to charge webcasters for royalties for streaming music are under consideration. According to Wired, they are not going to enforce these royalty rates, which would have put many a webcaster out of business, including my favorite: Pandora.

Of course, it’s not over yet. SoundExchange and the webcasters are negotiating new royalty rates. Congress could also end the debate by simply passing the Internet Radio Equality Act, but who knows if that will happen. Everyone’s watching this closely, including Congress, and I’m hoping they come to a rate that we can all life on.
