The Sound Of A Draining Battery?

I noticed something on my Nokia N95 the other day. When the phone was in idle mode (i.e. not playing music, making calls, etc) that the earpiece was emitting a high-pitched hum. I can make this happen by opening the slider or even touching a key in idle mode, even with the key lock activated! The high-pitched hum lasts for a minute or so and then goes away. I am not able to reproduce this issue on my Nokia E61. Haven’t tried it on other handsets yet.

While I don’t know for sure, I suspect that is the sound of the speaker coming on. Even if not, I suspect this may be one reason the battery life of the Nokia N95 isn’t what it could be.

Anyone else notice this? Post your experiences in the comments.

I’ve noticed that the N95 is the most aggressive at alerting about low battery … I’ve not heard the tone you mention, but get frequent and annoying warnings when things are in the final bars.

It’s not really a “tone” but more like an electronic hum. If you can’t hear the “silent” ringtone that only the younger kids could hear, then you probably won’t hear this. I can. ;)

I can wake up to the silent sound that comes before the alarm goes off and I can also hear that humm on some deviced and the same humm also comes from some backlit remote controls I’ve used. I’ve always considered it to
be the ’sound of light’ :)
