Asterisk and Gentoo
When I installed Asterisk recently, I made the mistake of installing it on my Nokia IP110 I converted to run Debian Linux, which also happens to be my home firewall. Problem is: this machine doesn’t have that great of a processor, and it doesn’t take much for the box to start chunking on calls.
Given that I’ve got lots of other machines around, I decided it was time to load one of them up with a fresh Gentoo Linux distribution. I’m using Gentoo mainly because I am having excellent luck on my desktop, though it does take forever and a day to set up. It’s a very manual process. Of course, one I set to up, I won’t have to do the horrible process again and everything will be as easy as the occasional emerge sync; emerge -U world.
