Michael Robertson is Back Selling MP3s again!

Michael Robertson has an interesting proposition with his new music store called AnywhereCD: buy unprotected MP3s (at 192k/s or higher) and, for a couple of bucks more, get the physical CD as well. I’m not sure how many of the artists they sell are not EMI artists, but hey, it’s a start. Note that you can’t buy singles at this site, only complete albums CDs. Prices start at $9.95 a “virtual” disk, and go up from there.

The site is relatively easy to use, offers samples of all the tracks, and the ability to be informed when other albums they don’t see become available in MP3 format. They also offer an MP3 Album Downloader application in order to allow easy transfer into iTunes, if that’s what floats your boat.

I think this is a great idea. MP3 is a good format because everything plays MP3. I would like to see higher bitrates as an option, but I’m a geek. I guess if you want better bitrates, rip it yourself off the CD.
